On Sept. 16, 1965 a swarm of killer bees attacked in downtown Rio de Janeiro.
Gary Norman has studied the behavior of bees. The European Honey Bee is familiar in the United States. Inside a hive lies a strictly organized society. Some care for ventilation by using their wings steadily for ventilating the air. The queen is the sole egg-layer.
The bees emerge as fully grown adults. A bee’s life lasts about six weeks. A dance of a bee will indicate to the other bees where a food source is to be found. The entrance is guarded and bees only pass after they were inspected.
Killer bees live in constant readiness for change. They breed faster, work faster, attack quicker and live longer. When 8 hives of African killer bees were introduced to Brazil to breed a super-bee, a bee which was to be crossed with the honeybee to produce more honey but as well having the characteristics of a domestic bee, accidently a whole swarm disappeared into the jungle. Breeding extensively they soon felt attacked by cows or farmers causing the peoples and the animals deaths. At least 300 people have died. They react to the black color. Breeding attempts are made to breed less aggressive killer bees.
